Terrain · R/T
The middle ground, leaning rough.
Rugged-terrain sits between all-terrain and mud-terrain: a more aggressive tread than an A/T with better on-road manners than an M/T. A good do-it-all compromise when neither of the other two quite fits.
Where R/T sits on the scale
Rugged-TerrainBetween A/T and M/T — more aggressive than one, more civilised than the other.
The terrain scale
From bitumen to the rough stuff.
Terrain types, ordered by how much time you spend off sealed roads. The rule of thumb: the more time off-road, the further along the scale you go — and the more noise and wear you accept for the grip.
Counts are the tyres listed in each terrain type right now. Types marked “Coming soon” have nothing listed yet.
Is it right for you?
What Rugged-Terrain gives you — and what it costs.
Better mannered than a mud-terrain, without pretending to be a highway tyre. Expect more noise than an A/T and less than an M/T.
A more aggressive tread than an all-terrain, so it holds on where an A/T starts to scrabble — rutted tracks, rock and heavier mud.
You pay for the extra bite in noise and wear. If most of your kilometres are sealed, an all-terrain is the easier tyre to live with.
Touring 4WDs that spend real time off the bitumen but still have to drive home on it.

Common questions
About rugged-terrain
What does R/T actually mean? +
Rugged (or hybrid) terrain. It sits between all-terrain and mud-terrain: a more aggressive tread than an A/T with better on-road manners than an M/T.
Is an R/T the right compromise for me? +
It is worth a look when an all-terrain is not quite enough off-road but a mud-terrain is more tyre than you want to live with on the highway.
Why do some sizes show "Price on request"? +
That size is listed but has no published price yet. Send the request and we will come back with a GST-inclusive quote for it.
